Time Out says

Friendly warning! We're working hard to be accurate. But these are unusual times, so please check that events are still happening.

Turn up the volume for a brand new local radio show – sort of. First launched in 2017, Singapore Community Radio burst into the scene to champion music creative cultures. Fast forward to 2020, the online community platform has given itself a fresh trim. From September 15, it returns with a brand new look and programmes that are curated and produced by an entirely new team. Look forward to both live and pre-recorded content, ranging from podcasts to video shows, available to stream for free via Twitch and Mixcloud Live, as well as Facebook Live for selected shows.

Spearheaded by creative director Darren Tan, the team aims to spotlight the diverse Singaporean voices on a shared platform, while capturing its ethos of championing music creative cultures in its programmes. “For too long we have looked beyond our shores to be entertained or to be inspired, but this pandemic has taught us the importance of the strengths of local talent and the communities that surround them,” says Darren Tan.

Kicking off with The Potluck Club, a bi-weekly podcast series that picks the brains of creatives in various industries, the community radio platform continues to roll out different content weekly from Tuesday to Friday. The first wave of shows includes a monthly collaboration with independent bookshop The Moon, zine platform Squelch Zines, conversation enthusiast Cosmic Children, beat purveyors Uploading, music label Evening Chants, record store The Analog Vault, and DJ/VJ duo Lim Brothers Travel.

Shows like High Tide exposes listeners to the Mandarin indie music and culture scene, while 10 Tracks lets listeners in on the 10 distinctive songs that soundtrack the evolving careers and personal lives of various musicians.

Come dusk, tune in for its roster of residents which currently includes DJ Itch and his city pop and boogie show Nightcap, Eden and his future beats on Inner Space, and Kim Wong and his throwback indie-rock party starters on Teenage Riot. Expect guest mixes from prolific music mavens from the community like ambient artist Kin Leonn, A Phat Cat Collective co-founder Joshua P, Darker Than Wax core member Daryl Knows, and synth-pop artist The Analog Girl to take over your speakers too.

ICYMI – all shows will be subsequently archived for public access over Spotify and Mixcloud. For the full lineup of programmes, follow Singapore Community Radio on Facebook and Instagram.
