In Our Best Interests
Time Out says
Friendly warning! We're working hard to be accurate. But these are unusual times, so please check that events are still happening.
Out of the Cold War grew intensive cultural exchange between African and Asian intellectuals, activists and revolutionaries as they explored new vectors of solidarity across borders. This exhibition traces these legacies through contemporary artworks and archival material. Focusing on Southeast Asia as a geopoetic imagination alongside a post-WWII global anti-colonial resistance to racism, the exhibition gives you a closer look at early regional imaginations such as Maphilindo (a proposed, nonpolitical confederation of Malaysia, the Philippines, and Indonesia) and contemporary appropriations of Afro-Asian histories. Watch a series of webinars to learn more about Afro-Southeast Asian history and solidarity, and contemplate what it means to work for "our" best interests in the face of Covid-19.
